Complete dentures
Full or complete dentures are used when no natural teeth are remaining in the upper or lower jaw.
Developments in materials and techniques can now produce dentures that fit better then ever before and look identical to natural teeth and gums.
Mass produced full dentures compromise of acrylics (plastics) that have a standard red/pink gum colour. These dentures lack the natural gum appearance, fit and strength of the higher quality acrylic materials available. (see our before and after photos page for comparison here )
The teeth used on complete dentures are also available in varying qualities. Economy teeth used on complete or full dentures are usually made from a less realistic, softer plastic. The shades (colours) of these teeth will be limited, as will the moulds (shapes of individual teeth), they also lack the vitality, strength and wear resistance of higher quality products.
Premium quality teeth are available in new materials like Phonares NHC, (picture above) these teeth provide breathtaking realism. The Phonares facial meter (picture below) also allows for selection of specific tooth moulds, matched to your facial proportions.
High impact acrylics (plastics) for the base of complete dentures, have been developed to match natural human tissue and can be tinted and coloured by hand. Some of the higher quality acrylic base materials are injection moulded during the manufacture of complete dentures, providing the best possible fit. Common methods of manufacturing complete dentures, introduces shrinkage into the denture base, this has a direct effect on the fit of your dentures.
