Clinical dental technicians and the dental team

In July 2007 government legislation required ALL practitioners in Dentistry to become professionally registered (alongside Dentists) as a public protection measure, this included the following professions:

  • Clinical Dental Technician
  • Dental Hygienist
  • Dental Nurse
  • Dental Technician
  • Orthodontic Therapist

Since 2007 all those involved in the provision of dental treament above must be qualified and registered with the General Dental Council or on a recognised training course leading to professional registration.

Registrants practice within their area of competence.

It is in your best interests to ensure that any dental professional who;

  • participates in your dental treatment
  • or to whom you are referred

is either qualified and registered to practice in that capacity, or in-training leading to a recognised qualification and suitably mentored.

If you wish to check the qualifications of any dental professional or are concerned that an individual is practicing unregistered and illegally, you can do so by searching the General Dental Council Register HERE.
